Vandy Soccer - Senior Reflections

Dec. 12, 2016

NASHVILLE, Tenn.  Arriving on Vanderbilt’s campus for the first time seems like just yesterday for seniors Claire Anderson, Sasha Gray and Kacy Scarpa.

Whether on West End for two or four years, the lessons learned at Vandy on and off the pitch have a left a bigger impression than anything they imagined. The trio recently sat down with vucommodores.com to reflect on their careers.

Anderson, a native of Seattle, Wash., spent four seasons with the ‘Dores. She started 66 games, playing in a total of 36 competitions. Playing both sides of the ball, Anderson secured two goals over her career, with her final Commodore goal coming against Ole Miss on senior day. A three-time member of the SEC honor roll, she graduates with a degree in Economics and plans to travel.

Gray, a native of Nesconset, N.Y., was a four-year letter-winner for the Commodores. Not missing a single game in her career, Gray helped hold four opponents off the score board in her final season, including back-to-back shutout victories over then-No. 14 Texas A&M and LSU. On offense, Gray gave Vandy its first hat trick since 2013, en route to an 8-0 victory over Jackson State. She graduates with a degree in Nursing and Child Development and plans to become an Advanced Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

After transferring from Florida State before the 2015 season, Scarpa made an immediate impact on and off the field and was named captain this past season. Playing in all 38 games since donning the black and gold, Scarpa proved to be an instrumental piece to the VU midfield. The Lakeland, Fla. native earned a spot on the Dean’s list twice after posting a 4.0 grade point average, all while majoring in Medicine, Health, and Society. Scarpa, a CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-American, plans to attend Physicians Assistant School and later work as a Pediatric Physician’s Assistant.
