Trio Readies for SEC Media Days

Clark Lea, Bradley Ashmore and Daevion Davis to represent Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – First-year head coach Clark Lea, sophomore offensive lineman Bradley Ashmore and junior defensive lineman Daevion Davis will represent Vanderbilt at the 2021 SEC Media Days, Monday-Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham – Wynfrey Hotel.

The SEC announced Wednesday the 28 football student-athletes who have been chosen by its 14 member schools to attend the main preseason event. Vanderbilt will join Alabama, Mississippi State and Texas A&M at the event Wednesday.

Ashmore, a First‐Year SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree, played in all nine games and started five last fall. He earned his first career start against Ole Miss, at left guard, and received four other starting nods, at right tackle, versus Mississippi State, Kentucky, Florida and Tennessee.

A native of Neptune Beach, Fla., Ashmore was part of an offensive line that provided pass protection for the Commodores to rank 31st nationally in completion percentage (63.8). He worked with an offense that increased its total offensive yards per game, passing yards per game, passing yards per completion, passing yards per attempt and third-down conversion percentage from 2019 to 2020.

Davis played in eight games in 2020 with one start, at Kentucky. He finished the year with 18 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, one caused fumble, one fumble recovery and two quarterback pressures.

The Madison, Ala., native’s first career forced fumble and fumble recovery were at No. 10 Texas A&M during the season opener. Davis added a season-high four tackles against Ole Miss and booked three stops apiece against No. 20 LSU, Mississippi State and Kentucky.

The Commodores are set to kick off the 2021 season with East Tennessee State at 7 p.m. on Sept. 4. Season tickets, mini plans and single-game tickets are available through the Vanderbilt ticket office.

Vanderbilt Stadium is expected to operate at 100 percent capacity for the 2021 campaign. Following revised CDC recommendations indicating that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks or physically distance, Vanderbilt updated many of its protocols effective May 25 including that gathering  size limits will be lifted for  outdoor gatherings.

Vanderbilt will continue to monitor public health guidance and rely on experts, including the CDC, Nashville Metro Public Health, and leaders at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the School of Nursing.
