Eighth-seeded soccer hosts NCAA opening weekend on Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the 13th time in program history, Vanderbilt soccer is headed back to the NCAA Tournament.

The Commodores, who heard their name called during Monday’s NCAA Soccer Championship Selection Show, will be the No. 8 seed (in the bottom left quadrant), earning the right to host the opening round for just the third time in program history and marking the second time in program history that Vandy enters the tournament seeded.

The Dores open the single-elimination regional on Friday, hosting Lipscomb in a 7 p.m. kickoff. Other teams in the region include Penn St., Stony Brook, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Samford and Florida State.

Vandy racked up three results against United Soccer Coaches Top-25 opponents this season and are ranked No. 25 in the NCAA RPI.

The Commodores are one of 10 Southeastern Conference teams selected to the field, a conference record. Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas join Vanderbilt.
