Looking ahead to what's on deck for the Commodores this week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Each week This Week on West End takes a closer look at what’s in store for the Commodores in the coming days.

The Vanderbilt soccer team has the lone home event on campus this week when it squares off with rival Georgia at 4 p.m. Sunday. The Vandy women’s golf team began play today in Mississippi.

Soccer

Vanderbilt soccer had dropped three in a row going into a tough matchup at Florida on Sunday. But the Commodores rose to the occasion and then some in Gainesville, Florida.

Raegan Kelley found a 79th-minute equalizer to force overtime and then Myra Konte scored the game-winner in the second overtime giving Vandy a 2-1 triumph.

Against South Carolina on Sunday, Alex Wagner scored the equalizer for Vandy in the 75th minute to help a Commodore comeback and force overtime. But the visiting Gamecocks scored on a penalty kick in the second overtime to prevail 2-1.

Keeper Sarah Fuller made six saves for the Commodores who improved to 2-3 on the season with the same mark in SEC play.

Georgia (2-1-2, 2-1-2 SEC) is coming off a 1-0 loss vs. Auburn on Sunday.

 

Women’s golf

The Vanderbilt women’s golf team will be back on the course Monday-Wednesday when it plays its second tournament of the fall. The Ally at Old Waverly is a three-day event in West Point, Mississippi, where the Commodores will compete.

Vandy started the year with a ninth-place finish at the all-SEC Blessings Collegiate Invitational.

 

Men’s golf

The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will begin a three-day tournament at the Vanderbilt Legends Club starting Sunday.

Part of the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate, the Commodores will compete in a 54-hole tournament in Franklin, Tennessee.
