This Week on West End

Looking ahead to what's on deck for the Commodores this week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Each week This Week on West End takes a closer look at what’s in store for the Commodores in the coming days.

A busy week includes two Commodore basketball contests – both inside Memorial Gymnasium. The Vandy men will be in action Wednesday and Saturday for key league matchups.

Vanderbilt women’s tennis has a pair of matches over the weekend and the Vandy swimming team will be in the water in Atlanta.

Here’s more of all the other happenings around West End this week:

Men’s basketball

The Vandy men’s basketball team will look to break a four-game losing streak when it first hosts Texas A&M (7-5, 2-4 SEC) at 6 p.m. Tuesday (ESPN2). Jerry Stackhouse’s team dropped an 81-61 decision at No. 10 Tennessee on Saturday after a big second half by the Volunteers.

The Commodores will then host Arkansas (10-4, 2-4 SEC) at noon Saturday (SEC Network).

Women’s tennis

Vanderbilt women’s tennis team got off to a nice start over the weekend with an impressive 7-0 win over Western Kentucky at the Currey Tennis Center.

Christina Rosca won her 100th career match during that contest as the Commodores began the 2021 spring schedule in style.

This weekend Vandy will be back in action both Saturday and Sunday. At noon Saturday, the Dores will make the short trip to Middle Tennessee for a match against the Blue Raiders. Then at noon Sunday, Memphis and Vanderbilt will square off at the Currey Tennis Center on West End.

Swimming

Vanderbilt’s swimming team will hit the water for the first time in 2021 as it heads to Atlanta for a meet against Georgia Tech.

The Commodores lost all three of their fall events and Saturday’s meet (scheduled for 11 a.m. CT) will be the team’s lone tune-up before the SEC Championships on Feb. 17-20 in Athens, Georgia.
