Hopkins named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A two-time First Team All-SEC honoree, Vanderbilt’s Haley Hopkins has been named to the watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Awarded annually to the top play in college soccer on both the men’s and women’s side, this marks the second time Hopkins has been named to the watch list in as many years after working her name onto the list in 2019.

Again one of the SEC’s top goal scorers in 2020, Hopkins led Vanderbilt in the fall with five goals for 10 points with three of her marks going down as game winners. Limited by nagging injury most of the fall season, Hopkins scored twice in the opener – a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Kentucky with all three goals coming in the second half. She then netted the winner on a header in the 88th minute to take down No. 15 Georgia before a brace in the SEC Semifinals lifted the Commodores over No. 8 Texas A&M 3-1 to mark a trip to the SEC title game for the first time since 1998.

An All-SEC honoree each of her three years with the program, a two-time SEC All-Tournament team honoree and a 2019 All-American, Hopkins is one of 10 SEC student-athletes to be named to this year’s list.

Hopkins and the Commodores will play six games – two exhibitions and four regular-season contests – this spring before going back to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row thanks to winning the SEC Tournament title in November. Vandy’s spring season will get underway in February with exhibitions against Middle Tennessee State (Feb. 21) and DePaul (Feb. 27) before the regular season starts March 11 against Kennesaw State.
