Wrapping Up Fall Season

Vanderbilt concludes fall season at Miami Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Vanderbilt wrapped up the fall swimming season at the three-day Miami Invitational against the host Hurricanes and Iowa at Norman Whitten Pool over the weekend.

Kailia Utley swept the butterfly events for the Commodores. On the final day of competition, Utley was tops in the 200-yard fly and broke two minutes at 1:59.19 for an NCAA B-cut.

Mercedes Traba was third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:45.71), while Eleanor Beers was second in the 100 free (50.52) and Francesca Neubauer earned bronze in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.65).

Vanderbilt capped the meet with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay behind Pierobon Mays, Deber, Bauer and Beers who finished in 3:25.71.

On Friday, Utley won the 100 butterfly in 55.04 with another NCAA B-cut, while Tonner Debeer was third at 55.24. Beers was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.46.  Gabriela Pierobon Mays was second in the 100 backstroke (55.79), while Neubauer was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.70).

Vanderbilt finished second at the 200 medley relay with Pierobon Mays, Neubauer, Debeer and Beers finishing in 1:42.16. The Commodores were also second in the 800 free relay with Beers, Stout, Ward and Traba stopping the clock at 7:35.57.

During the first day of competition, Beers, Debeer, Almasi and Pierobon Mays were second in the 200 free relay (1:34.09), while Pierobon Mays, Neubauer, Debeer and Beers were runner-ups in the 400 medley relay (3:45.33).

Beers was second by one-hundreth of a second in the 50 free (23.34), Neubauer was third in the 200 individual medley (2:06.05), Traba earned bronze in the 500 free (4:58.70).
