Success on Shortened Second Day

Vanderbilt's Anna Ross was among the victors on a rain-shorted day two of the Miami Spring Invite.

MIAMI – In a shortened day two at the Miami Spring Invite, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team continued to build on early season successes as three individuals registered wins over Texas on Sunday morning. 

Against the Longhorns 

  • The Commodores went 3-3 over the course of a hard-fought second day in Florida. 
  • Anna Ross won in straight sets over her opponent, the Longhorns’ Charlotte Chavatipon (6-3, 6-4). 
  • Dasha Kourkina and Yufei Long also defeated their competition in two sets each with Kourkina taking down Simran Kortikere 6-2 and 6-0 while Long picked up a pair of 6-3 wins over Gabby Cusano. 
  • Holly Staff won her first set over No. 117 Malaika Rapolu before falling in a close, three-set battle (6-4, 4-6, 3-6). 
  • In a ranked singles match-up, 96th-ranked Marcella Cruz took on 40th-ranked Kylie Collins, ultimately dropping a pair of 6-3 decisions. 
  • Anessa Lee, ranked No. 112 in the nation, also competed, falling to Peyton Stearns of Texas in two sets. 

Doubles Update 

  • Inclement weather forced the cancellation of Sunday’s doubles matches.
