Casey Scheuer

Assistant Athletic Trainer

Casey Scheuer is currently an assistant athletic trainer at Vanderbilt University. She has created and implemented an evidence-based injury prevention program, coordinated patient care with team physicians, and conducted movement screenings using fusionetics.

Scheuer came to Vanderbilt from Indiana University where she was the athletic trainer for cross country and track & field. At Indiana, Scheuer was responsible for coordinating the medical care and treatment schedules for student athletes. She also spearheaded evidence-based return-to-running progressions including use of Alter-G treadmill and Hydroworx underwater treadmill. Scheuer also conducted the pre-participation examinations for incoming first years and returning athletes. Additionally, she mentored first year MSAT students.

Prior to training the cross country and track & field team, Scheuer worked with the baseball team where she provided medical care, created several aquatic rehabilitation plans, coordinated plans of care for the student athletes, and mentored an undergraduate athletic training student.

Before working at Indiana University, Scheuer was an athletic trainer at Bloomington High School where she overlooked away-game coverage of junior varsity/freshman football, girls’ and boys’ soccer, girls’ basketball, and home swimming and diving meets. Furthermore, she guided athletes, parents, and coaches through concussion return-to-play protocols.

Prior to this Scheuer worked at Woodward Action Sports Camp where she treated and managed injuries for over 800 action sports campers, professional athletes, and staff. She was also responsible for communicating with the parents of overnight campers about their health status and plans of care.

Apart from her plethora of experience, Scheuer has attended several training programs and received several awards for her exemplary work. She has attended the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia, the Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Annual Meeting and Clinal Symposia, and the James Madison University Athletic Training Program. During her time at Indiana University and James Madison University Scheuer received the Kip Smith Commitment to Excellence award, the Dr. Edith Schuman Award, the Lucile M. Swift-Mona M. Russell Fellowship, and the Sports Medicine Director’s Award.

Scheuer graduated from Indian University in 2021 with a master of science in kinesiology with a concentration in athletic training.
