Spring Season Underway

Vanderbilt kicks off season in Murfreesboro

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team will open the 2020 spring season taking on Belmont and Memphis in the Coach LaLance Invitational beginning Friday.

Hosted by Middle Tennessee at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, the Commodores enter the invitational featuring nine veteran players and two freshmen.

Vanderbilt begins the spring season after a strong fall campaign where multiple Dores advanced to the finals of invitationals and senior Billy Rowe was crowned champion of the Commodore Scramble.

Last spring, the Dores concluded the season with a 16-12 overall record and earned four league victories.

In the SEC Championship, Vanderbilt advanced to the second round with a thrilling win over Kentucky 4-3. In the quarterfinals, the Dores fell short to Mississippi State 4-2 to conclude their run.

In the NCAA tournament, Vandy defeated Notre Dame 4-3 to advance to the Super Regionals where it fell to Ohio State.

Head coach Ian Duvenhage looks forward to his team’s spring debut.

“This weekend’s matches are a great opportunity for us to see exactly where we are at this stage of the season and to prepare us for the dual matches ahead,” Duvenhage said.

Looking to earn a strong start to the season, Vanderbilt will begin competition at 1 p.m. Friday and will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Commodores close the invitational at 10 a.m. Sunday.
