Experience: Fourth year at Vanderbilt

Former Ole Miss standout Christine (Breaux) Husni joined the Vanderbilt women[apos]s soccer program as an assistant coach prior to the 2011 season.

A 2005 freshman All-American and 2008 All-Southeastern Conference honoree, Husni started all 81 matches in her career at Ole Miss when current VU Head Coach Derek Greene was the Rebels[apos] associate head coach.

[quote]We are thrilled to have Christine as part of our staff and soccer family at Vanderbilt,[quote] Greene said. [quote]The moment I found out I was going to be named head coach, I immediately thought of Christine because I know what a great person and competitor she is. She embodies everything you want a person to stand for in life. Coaching her at Ole Miss was so easy because whatever you asked her to do, she did it 100 percent every time.[quote]

A native of Gonzales, La., Husni prepped at Dutchtown High School, where she earned All-State honors three times and was named the 2004-05 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year. She was a member of the three-time state champion Baton Rouge Soccer Club and was selected to the ODP U-19 South Region team in 2006.

Husni made an immediate impact upon her arrival in Oxford, starting every game while leading Ole Miss in minutes played. She was named a third-team Freshman All-American by Soccer Buzz after helping the Rebel defense set a school record with 12 shutouts.

Later in her Ole Miss career, Husni moved from the back line into the midfield, where she would earn second-team All-SEC honors and be voted the team[apos]s most valuable player.

After graduating from Ole Miss in 2009 with a liberal arts degree, Husni joined the Mississippi Teacher Corps. She started the boys soccer program at Byhalia High School in 2010. Husni earned a master[apos]s degree in curriculum and instruction from Ole Miss in May 2011.

The former Christine Breaux married Dr. Afeef Husni in the summer of 2012. The couple resides in Nashville.
