Kevin Maxen

Assistant Strength Coach (Football)

The 2020 season is the first as assistant strength coach for Kevin Maxen, who comes to West End with more than a decade of experience in the industry.

Prior to Vanderbilt, Maxen spent one year as director of strength and conditioning at JJ Pierce High School in Richardson, Texas, where he was responsible for the design and implementation of athletic development programs for 14 high school teams and two junior high programs.

He also spent time at Baylor, serving as a part-time athletics performance coach with football in 2019. During that period, he incorporated functional range conditioning methods to assist in athletes’ recovery and mobility in addition to other activities.

Maxen served as Iowa’s intern strength and conditioning coach in 2018. There, he tracked athletes’ day-to-day movement using GPS, heart rate and sleep through various applications, monitored body weight, and maintained and supervised nutrition center.

He also interned at Army as a strength and conditioning coach with football and completed an internship with Allegiate in Redondo Beach, California, during 2017. For nearly six years, Maxen served as head strength and conditioning coach at Pomperaug High School in Southbury, Connecticut.

Maxen graduated from Western Connecticut State in 2018. He majored in American studies and minored in health promotion and wellness management. He was a three-year starter and team captain for the varsity football program.
