Soccer Takes On Mississippi Schools

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ­­— Vanderbilt’s soccer team looks to continue its run for a spot in the Southeastern Conference tournament against Ole Miss and Mississippi State this week.

The Commodores will face Ole Miss in Oxford tomorrow night at 7 p.m., before returning home to take on Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

VU is 5-8-2 on the year and in a tie for eighth place in the SEC with a 2-4-1 record. The Commodores snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over Arkansas last Sunday at the VU Soccer Complex.

Ole Miss is 6-6-4 overall and 3-3-2 in league action after losing at No. 13 Tennessee last Friday and tying No. 17 Georgia last Sunday. Senior Chrissy Strini leads the team with four goals and three assists (11 points), with junior Jennifer Hance chipping in with four goals on the season. Junior goalkeeper Megan Vickery sports a 0.78 goals against average in 14 games and has notched three shutouts and 41 saves.

Vanderbilt leads the all-time series with the Rebels, 4-1-3, and is 1-0-3 in the last four meetings. VU won 2-0 last season in Nashville.

Mississippi State is 6-9-1 on the year and 2-5-1 in conference action after upsetting No. 17 Georgia last Friday in Athens, 1-0. They are currently tied with Vanderbilt and Alabama with seven points in eighth place in the league standings. Senior Treena Ferguson leads the team with six goals and three assists (15 points) while sophomore Katelyn Graben is second with four goals (three game-winners) and four assists (12 points). Sophomore Taryn Holland has a 1.99 goals against average with three shutouts on the year.

Vanderbilt leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 7-1, including a 4-0 win last season in Starkville.
