Soccer remains unbeaten with 3-0 win

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. –Vanderbilt’s women’s soccer team remained undefeated on the young season with a 3-0 win over East Tennessee State Friday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

The Commodores moved to 4-0 on the year with the win, while the Bucs lost for the first time this year to drop to 2-1.

A pair of Megan’s scored their first collegiate goals in the contest. Sophomore Megan Eddings got on the board at the 21:23 mark in the first half while fellow sophomore Megan Kinsella scored her first goal at the 56:10 point in the second half to make it 2-0. Senior Amy Wilcox was credited with the assist on Eddings goal.

A pair of freshmen then connected for the third goal when Elizabeth Lillie scored her first collegiate goal at the 86:43 mark off an assist by Emily Grant.

The three goals scored are the most in a game this season for the Commodores. The team now has seven different players who have scored a goal this year.

It was the third shutout win in four games this year for VU. The team has allowed just one goal in 385 minutes of action including two double overtime matchups.

The Commodore defense once again excelled as goalkeeper Rachel Bachtel just faced one shot on goal the entire game. She made the save and now has a 0.23 goals against average this year and seven career shutouts overall.

The team will head over to Cookeville to face Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Tech Soccer Field. The Golden Eagles (1-3) picked up their first win of the season Friday afternoon against Appalachian State, 1-0.
