Soccer: Davidson Prevails 2-1 in OT

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. –Blakely Low’s goal at the 98:19 minute mark in overtime lifted Davidson to a 2-1 win over Vanderbilt in the first game of the College of Charleston Tournament Friday night.

It was the second straight overtime loss for the Commodores who fell to 2-4-1 on the season, while the Wildcats improved to 3-3-0.

Vanderbilt held a 1-0 lead at halftime by virtue of freshman Hannah Gonzales’ first career goal at the 38:10 mark. She scored off a free kick from 20 yards out as the Commodores held a 7-5 shot advantage in the first half.

Davidson came back to tie the game a little over five minutes into the second half when Kyr Bye-Nagel scored off a rebounded shot that was blocked by Commodore keeper Rachel Bachtel.

Low’s game-winning goal developed off a corner kick assist by Nancy Haskell. It was just the third corner kick of the game for the Wildcats, while the Commodores had nine.

Vanderbilt finished the game with a 12-10 shot advantage including a 7-4 shot on goal lead. Amy Wilcox and Molly Kinsella both had two shots on goal while Lindsay Ratterman and Taylour Claxton added one each.

Bachtel finished with two saves, while Wildcat keeper Bevin English ended up with six saves.

Vanderbilt will be back in action on Sunday afternoon against host College of Charleston at 1:30 p.m. CT.
