NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt freshman standout Ella Shamburger has been called up to join the United States U-20 National Team Camp from June 8-17 as it prepares for the U-20 World Cup qualifiers.
It’s the second time this year Shamburger has been called up, following her stint with the U-23 team in Spain at the 2019 Women’s International U-23 La Manga Tournament.
"It is always an honor to be asked to play for the United States," Shamburger said. "And on top of that, it is always such a great opportunity to represent Vanderbilt."
The U.S. will face the U-20 squad from Germany and the Washington Spirit from the National Women’s Soccer League in a pair of friendly matches.
Shamburger is coming off an impressive freshman season in which she was named to the All-SEC Freshman team, All-Southeast Region second team and the Top-Drawer Freshman second team.
She started all 21 games for the Commodores, leading a defense that only allowed 14 goals all season. She led the Commodores with 1,776 minutes played and also tallied three assists.
