Dores win third straight SEC contest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. β€” Vanderbilt won its third conference contest in a row Sunday, defeating visiting Mississippi State 2-1 in the Commodores’ final home match of the regular season.

After being recognized during the Senior Day pregame festivities, senior Alex Kerr provided the start Vandy wanted in the sixth minute. Kerr took a pass down the sideline from Raegan Kelley and slotted a right-footed shot past the Mississippi State keeper for her sixth goal on the season.

The Bulldogs bounced back with a goal in the 11th minute and the two sides would remained even at 1-1 through halftime.

Vanderbilt took over in the second half and out-shot Mississippi State 8-1. The Commodores finally broke through in the 75th when Alex Wagner delivered a perfect cross towards goal and Hannah McLaughlin got her left foot on the ball to give Vandy a 2-1 lead with 15 minutes to play.

Mississippi State created a dangerous chance late but the Commodore defense preserved the lead as Vanderbilt claimed its third SEC victory in a row.

Vanderbilt moves to 11-2-3 (5-2-2 SEC) while Mississippi State falls to 10-4-3 (4-4-1 SEC).

The Commodores remain in first place in the SEC East with one game remaining. Vandy will finish the regular season on Thursday at Tennessee who is one point behind Vanderbilt in the East standings. Vanderbilt wins the East with a win over the Volunteers.
