Vanderbilt’s path to the 2020 SEC Tournament title set

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt’s path to the 2020 SEC Soccer Tournament championship was set Monday afternoon with the Commodores garnering the No. 7 seed in this year’s edition of the tournament.

With the No. 7 seed, Vanderbilt will play its first match against 10th-seeded Mississippi State in the second round on Sunday at noon CT on SEC Network in Orange Beach, Alabama. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 17, to meet SEC East champion and second-seeded Tennessee at noon CT, also on SEC Network.

Vanderbilt posted a 4-4 record during the regular season, earning victories over Kentucky, Florida, Georgia and LSU. Each of its four losses were by a goal with three of those defeats coming in overtime, including a 1-0 OT loss at Tennessee back in September.

In the all-time series against Mississippi State, Vanderbilt holds a 17-3-0 record against the Bulldogs. Vandy and Mississippi State have not met since the 2018 season, where the Dores earned a 1-0 win over the No. 25 Bulldogs on West End. Looking deeper at the series, Vanderbilt has not lost to Mississippi State since the 2011 season and has won six in a row. Under head coach Darren Ambrose, Vandy is 3-0 against Mississippi State with each game decided by one goal.
