AUSTIN, Texas – For her brilliant efforts on and off the soccer field, redshirt senior Kacy Scarpa has been named a 2016 CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American.

Scarpa is the program’s fourth Academic All-American following Molly Kinsella (‘10), Christy Barringer (’95) and Stacy Ashworth (’93).

“I’m extremely happy for Kacy (Scarpa) and incredibly proud of her,” said head coach Darren Ambrose. “From the moment she arrived on campus she made a huge impact in our program, not only on the field but probably even more importantly, off of it.”

After transferring from Florida State, Scarpa showed leadership in her two years on West End being named a captain this season. She played an instrumental role in the Dores’ midfield, starting all 19 competitions this past year.

The Lakeland, Fla. native has earned a spot on the Dean’s list twice after posting a 4.0 grade point average and majoring in Medicine, Health, and Society. Scarpa plans to attend Physicians Assistant School and later work as a pediatric physician’s assistant.

On top of her athletic and academic accomplishments, Scarpa has also spent countless hours working in the community by volunteering at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt and collecting donations for Soles4Souls, a not-for-profit global social enterprise committed to fighting poverty through the collection and distribution of shoes and clothing.

“Kacy has set a great example of how to treat people, how to work hard and how that work pays off,” continued Ambrose. “It’s wonderful to see her recognized publicly for what we all already knew, which is how she embodies the values of our program on and off of the field.”
