Vanderbilt set to face Northwestern, North Carolina

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 13 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team hits the road to travel to Illinois to face Northwestern on Friday followed by a matchup with North Carolina on Sunday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The Commodores enter Friday’s match with a 1-1 record after defeating Penn 4-0 on the opening day of the ITA Kick-Off weekend. In the championship match, the Dores fell short in a heartbreaker to Arizona State 4-3.

The Dores last faced Northwestern in the Miami Spring Invite where they fell short in doubles play against the Wildcats but outlasted Northwestern in singles with four victories.

In dual play, Vanderbilt defeated Northwestern 5-2 last season at the Currey Tennis Center.

Northwestern earned a 1-1 record at the ITA Kick-Off where they fell short to Arizona State 4-2 in the opening match but defeated Penn 4-0 in the consolation championship.

On Sunday, the Dores will face a Carolina team boasting a 4-0 record. The Tar Heels enter the weekend after earning a spot in the ITA Indoor Championships with victories over Auburn and Old Dominion in the ITA Kick-Off.

North Carolina is currently ranked at No. 2 in the latest ITA Rankings.

In the last matchup between the Dores and the Tar Heels, North Carolina outlasted Vanderbilt 5-2 at the Currey Tennis Center.

Vanderbilt is led by sophomore Georgia Drummy in singles play. Drummy holds the No. 22 spot in the ITA Rankings and enters the weekend with a 12-7 combined record.
