Commodores set to compete at SEC Championships

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — It’s been a fast outdoor season for the Vanderbilt track and field team and it’s time for the SEC Championships which begin Thursday in College Station, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M University.

This will be the first SEC Outdoor Championships since 2019 after the 2020 meet was canceled. The heptathlon will jump start the meet for the Commodores at 2:20 p.m. CT Thursday, while running events begin at 6:30 p.m. on the first day of competition. The heptathlon resumes Friday at 2:35 p.m., and running events start at 6 p.m. The final day of competition starts at 5 p.m., with the awards ceremony scheduled for 9 p.m.

The meet can be seen Thursday on SEC Network+ from 5:40-9:30 p.m., and Friday from 4:35-9:30 p.m. Saturday events can be seen live on SEC Network from 5-9 p.m.

So far in this outdoor season, the Commodore women boast four outdoor school records and a total of 25 top-10 performances. In a shortened indoor season, Vanderbilt broke a pair of program records and etched 17 new entries into the school record book which included 14 different student-athletes in nine different individual events and two relays.

Vanderbilt has three performances which rank among the top 50 in the nation, including Taiya Shelby, who is 30th in the 400 meters (52.65), Ruby Stauber, who is 19th in the 800 meters (2:04.35) and Grace Jensen, who is 49th in the 1500 meters (4:16.74).

In addition, five Commodores have combined for six performances among the top 48 who would qualify for the NCAA East Regionals—Fuller (100, 200 meters), Haley Bishop (200 meters), Shelby (400 meters), Stauber (800 meters), Jensen (1,500 meters).

For the Commodores that qualify, the NCAA East Regionals are in Jacksonville, Florida, May 27-29.
