Battle Ground

  • Vanderbilt is set to embark on a run in which it takes on five ranked teams in a row starting Thursday night against No. 5/4 South Carolina inside Memorial Gym before going on the road for the first time since Dec. 13 to visit No. 12/11 Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. CT.
  • The Commodores own a 21-18 series advantage against South Carolina going back to 1990-91. That said, South Carolina has won each of the last 12 meetings and 13 of 14 going back to 2009-10. The run came after Vanderbilt beat the Gamecocks in eight straight from 2003-04 to 2008-09.
  • Vandy owns a 30-25 advantage in the all-time series against Kentucky. The Commodores have won two of the last three meetings while both teams have won three in the last six. Last time the two met in the 2019-20 regular-season finale, Vanderbilt earned its first win over a ranked foe under Stephanie White by beating the Wildcats 70-64 in Nashville.

Looking Astern

  • Playing in its first game in 21 days because of COVID-19, Vanderbilt opened SEC play last time out on Sunday and fell 80-56 to Alabama inside Memorial Gym.
  • Brylee Bartram led the Dores for the second straight game, scoring 15 points on five three-pointers. Chelsie Hall was the other Commodore in double figures, notching 14 points. In the first half, Hall reached 1,000 points for her career in black and gold.
  • The game marks the first time in six outings this season Vanderbilt did not score at least 74 points.

A Vandy Win Against South Carolina Would…

  • … snap a brief one-game losing streak.
  • … be the 858th win in program history.
  • … be the 22nd over South Carolina and the 12th against the Gamecocks at home.
  • … be the first against South Carolina since the 2010-11 season, snapping a streak of 12 losses in a row.
  • … be the second in a row against a ranked opponent (beat No. 15/16 Kentucky 70-64 on March 1, 2020).
  • … be the second against a ranked team under Stephanie White.
  • … be the first win over an AP Top 5 team since Feb. 19, 2009, when Vanderbilt beat No. 3 Auburn 73-70.
  • … be the sixth win over a Top 5 program since the 2000-01 season (5-43 in 48 games to date since 2000-01).

A Vandy Loss to South Carolina Would…

  • … be the 13th in a row against South Carolina.
  • … be the 21st consecutive loss to a Top 5 program.
  • … be less good than a win.
