Picked Second

Commodores selected to finish second in SEC in 2021

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis has been picked to finish second in the SEC in 2021, the conference announced Friday afternoon.

The Commodores garnered 117 points in the preseason poll voted on by the SEC’s 14 head coaches. Georgia, which was picked to win the conference, earned 140 points. The Dores were followed by Florida, South Carolina and LSU to round out the top five.

Vanderbilt opened the 2021 season at No. 15 in the Oracle/ITA rankings. Only Georgia (No. 7) and South Carolina (No. 14) checked in ahead of the Commodores and all five of the SEC’s preseason top five are within the ITA’s initial top 25.

After opening its season with a 7-0 win over Western Kentucky last Sunday, Vanderbilt will be back in action this weekend with a Saturday match at MTSU before hosting Memphis on Sunday. Both matches are set for noon.
