Vanderbilt hosts Temple to end regular season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt concludes its regular season this Saturday during Senior Day against Temple at noon CT at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.

Saturday’s matchup will determine the third and fourth seeds in the American Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins May 2 in Cincinnati.

The Commodores (10-4, 2-2) are coming off their second conference loss of the year after falling on the road, 18-15, against Cincinnati.

The Commodores have bounced back strong this year, going 3-0 in games coming off a loss. Vanderbilt has won those three games by a combined 35 goals.

Sophie Furlong leads the Commodores in goals this season with 32 and already has four five-goal games this season. Her shot percentage of 0.681% leads the country.

On her last 18 shots, Furlong has found the back of the net 16 times.

Gabby Fornia currently leads the Commodores with 35 assists this season and 50 total points. She recently notched her 50th career assist, becoming the fastest Commodore to reach that mark in Vanderbilt history (31 games). She passed Vanderbilt assistant coach Jill Doherty (40 games) to achieve that mark.

Fornia is currently ranked 18th nationally in assists (35) and 13th in assists per game (2.50) in the country.

Maddie Souza is coming off winning back-to-back Freshman of the Week honors. She’s notched a hat trick in two straight games.

The Dores have been dominant on both sides of the field, ranking fourth nationally in assists per game (8.71), fifth in caused turnovers per game (12.64) and ninth in points per game (23.93).

The Commodores also rank 14th nationally in free position percentage (.478), 21st in scoring margin (4.43) and 11th in scoring offense (15.21).

Saturday’s contest will be Senior Day for Vanderbilt’s seniors, and there will be a pregame Kid’s Zone that will open at 11 a.m. CT. The game will also be free admission and will be broadcast on Facebook.com/VanderbiltAthletics.
