BANDON, Ore. – Harrison Ott defeated medalist Wilson Furr of Alabama in 19 holes Thursday to advance to the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur contested at Bandon Dunes.
Ott, the event’s No. 32 seed, was 1-down heading into 18 before notching a birdie on the 524-yard par-5. He then turned in a par on the first playoff hole to knock off top-seeded Furr.
Ott will face Stewart Hagestad at 3:30 p.m. CT Thursday with a trip to the quarterfinals on the line. Golf Channel will provide coverage from 7-9 p.m.
John Augenstein, the tournament’s runner-up in 2019, tied for seventh in stroke play but fell in the first round of match play on the 18th hole. William Moll missed the cut after rounds of 76-76.
