Commodores hit the road for the first time this season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the first time this season, Vanderbilt track and field will hit the road. The Commodores head to South Carolina for the Clemson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Freshmen Madison Murray and Jada Smith will get the meet started on Friday at 10 a.m. in the 60-meter hurdles. The first day will conclude with the distance medley relay at 4:45 p.m., while Saturday starts for the Commodores in the 800 meters at 12:20 p.m., and concludes at 2:40 with the 4×400 relay.

The Commodores opened the season last weekend as hosts at the Vanderbilt Invitational. In one of the fastest and most competitive meets in the nation that weekend, Vanderbilt had two freshmen post all-time top 10 marks in program history. Jada Sims cleared 1.65 meters (5 feet, 5 inches) for the 10th-best high jump in school history, while Kaitlyn Deutsch reached No. 7 in the Vanderbilt record book in the pole vault (3.85m/12-07.50 ft.). Upon returning to campus, the Commodores will have a week off and then head to the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Feb. 7-8, before hosting the Music City Challenge, Feb. 14-15.
