NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sixth-ranked Vanderbilt women’s tennis welcomes Mississippi State on Friday to the Currey Tennis Center at 3:30 p.m. and hosts No. 49 Ole Miss on Sunday at 1 p.m. in what will be its final home match.
Coming off of a close 4-3 clinch by freshman Carolyn Campana over Kentucky, the Commodores look to extend their winning streak.
The Dores enter the sixth weekend of SEC play boasting a 7-2 conference record and 12-5 overall mark. The Commodores currently ride a two-match winning streak after earning back-to-back wins over Florida and Kentucky.
In this week’s Oracle ITA Rankings, the Dores featured five student-athletes in the singles rankings and three doubles pairs in the top-80. Senior Fernanda Contreras leads the Dores at the top of the lineup coming in at fourth nationally, boasting a 25-9 overall singles record.
On Friday, the Commodores face a 12-9 Mississippi State team that is currently 3-6 in SEC play.
The Bulldogs most recently suffered a 4-3 loss to Arkansas and enter the meeting 2-5 on the road.
The Bulldogs are led by freshman Emma Antonaki, ranked 67th in the Oracle ITA Rankings. Antonaki sports a 24-8 overall singles record and has only dropped three dual matches.
In the last matchup between the Commodores and Bulldogs, Mississippi State came out on top to upset Vanderbilt, 4-3, in Starkville, Mississippi.
Prior to Sunday’s match, the Commodores will honor their three seniors — Fernanda Contreras, Summer Dvorak and Emily Smith.
The Dores will face a 9-8 Ole Miss team which has earned a 4-5 start in conference play.
The Rebels currently ride a three-match winning streak, with its lone SEC victory coming in the form of a 4-0 blanking of Missouri.
In the last meeting between the Dores and Rebels, Vanderbilt shut out Ole Miss, 4-0.
