Commodores Fall to Florida

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Chelsie Hall fueled the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team with 20 points in the squad’s Sunday afternoon loss to Florida, 78-66.
 
The teams exchanged in a back-and-forth battle throughout. At the 6:59 mark in the third quarter, Funda Nakkasoglu sparked a 19-5 Gator run to tilt the game back in Florida’s favor, 55-43. 
 
Vanderbilt made multiple efforts, but was unable to take down a steady-shooting Florida team. 
 
Brinae Alexander (12) rounded out the Commodores that finished in double-digits. Autumn Newby chipped in a game-high 12 boards. 
 
The Gators shot 49 percent from the field while holding the Commodores to just 41.3 percent. Flroida also forced 19 turnovers and converted them into 22 points. 
 
With the win, Florida improved to 7-22 (3-13 SEC) while Vanderbilt fell to 7-22 (2-14 SEC). 
 
The Commodores will enter the SEC Tournament as the No. 14 seed. The squad will take on the No. 11 seed, that is to be determined, on Wednesday in the second game.
