Commodores Set to Compete in ITA National Team Indoors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt women’s tennis travels to Seattle, Washington to compete in the 2019 ITA Division 1 National Women’s Team Indoor Championship.
 
Battling in a draw of 16 teams, the 3-1 Commodores take on Washington in the first round. Fourth-seeded Vanderbilt faces an undefeated Huskies team Friday at 8:30 p.m. CT. at Nordstrom Tennis Center.
 
This year marks the 38th year of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with North Carolina entering the championship as the reigning champions after defeating Pepperdine in 2018, 4-2.
 
In the 2018 ITA National Team Indoors, the Commodores concluded their stint in the tournament after falling to Pepperdine in the semifinals, 4-3. The loss capped Vanderbilt’s third appearance in the ITA National Team Indoor semifinals. 
 
Fifteen out of the 16 teams competing this weekend are ranked in the top-25 nationally with Stanford entering as the top-ranked team. The Commodores, meanwhile, enter as the nation’s second-ranked team with six top-100 ranked singles performers and three top-50 doubles pairs.  
 
The tournament begins Friday Feb. 8 with the championship match taking place Monday, Feb. 11.
