Drummy Named SEC Freshman of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt freshman Georgia Drummy has been named SEC Freshman of the Week following her 6-0 start this season as a Commodore.
 
Drummy, originally from Dublin, Ireland, joined Vanderbilt women’s tennis in January from Evert Academy.

Last week, Drummy earned her first upset as a Commodore, dominating North Carolina’s Sara Daavettila, fourth-ranked nationally, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-1. The Vanderbilt freshman closed out the week against No.12 Northwestern, earning her fourth dual victory on the season by defeating Lee Or, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.
 
Drummy made her Commodore debut in the Miami Spring Invite last month and earned two singles victories. Drummy defeated Kentucky’s Alexis Merrill in a straight-set win, 6-3, 6-3, followed by a victory over Miami’s Ana Madcur, 6-2, 6-1. 
 
At the ITA Kickoff on Jan. 25, the freshman continued her straight-set winning streak by defeating Memphis’s Lina Hohnhold, 6-1, 6-2. On the final day of the ITA Kickoff, Drummy took down Oklahoma’s Camila Romero, 6-3, 6-4.
 
Drummy is currently on a 4-0 winning streak in dual matches after earning a starting position in the lineup and advancing from Court 4 to Court 3. She will continue her streak this weekend in the ITA National Team Indoors in Seattle, Washington.

Six Dores Ranked in Oracle ITA Singles Top 100
 
Led by senior Fernanda Contreras at No. 3, Vanderbilt has landed six players among the ITA top 100 singles players in the country. Contreras was followed by junior Christina Rosca (No. 12), sophomore Amanda Meyer (No. 31), Drummy (No. 42), senior Emily Smith (No. 65) and freshman Carolyn Campana (No. 93).
 
In doubles, the Dores landed three pairings in the ITA Top 50. Rosca and Dvorak secured the No. 27 spot for the Dores followed by Dvorak/Contreras at No. 34 and senior duo Contreras/Smith at No. 46.
 
Vanderbilt sits second-ranked in the nation heading into the ITA National Team Indoors Championships.
