NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt continued its perfect to start to 2019 after taking down Kennesaw State, 20-11, Saturday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
The Commodores (2-0) and Owls (0-1) were all tied up at four, when the Commodores took over with 21 minutes remaining in the first half. They went on an 8-1 scoring run over the next 17 minutes.
From there the Commodores kept their foot on the pedal, tallying eight more goals through the rest of the contest.
For the second straight game Sophie Furlong led the Commodores in scoring, tying her career-high of five goals. The sophomore formed an efficient two-person game with Gabrielle Fornia, who assisted on two of her goals.
Furlong leads the Commodores with 10 goals through the first two games.
Callie Sundin had a career day as well, netting four goals in her second collegiate game. Sundin was also on the same page with another Commodore as Brianne Gross assisted her on three of her goals.
Gross led the way passing with four assists while Fornia was right behind her with three. They both added a goal apiece as well.
Julie Blaze had another multi-goal game with two, and Hadley Brown and Mattern Burnett also finished with two goals each.
Melissa Hawkins poured in an excellent performance on the defensive end, forcing a game-high four turnovers and having a game-high five draw controls.
Lily Argyle got her first win of the season, recording two saves in 50 minutes of action.
Up next, the Dores start their five-game road trip and travel to Greenville, South Carolina, to take on Furman for their first road game of the season.
