MG to tee it up at Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell

The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will tee it up in their second event of the 2018-19 season when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to play in the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell at the Shoal Creek Country Club, home of the 1984 and 1990 PGA Championship.

The Commodores will send seniors Will Gordon and Patrick Martin, junior John Augenstein, sophomore Harrison Ott, and freshman Michael Shears to compete as a team, with redshirt sophomore Mason Greenberg playing as an individual.

“It’s been nice to have a few weeks to be able to get on a schedule and establish a routine as a team,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh.  “We have had a couple of good weeks of practice and I know the boys are ready to compete again.  We have to continue to work to form the right kind of identity for this team and that happens by all of our guys having the right buy-in to what we are trying to do.  One thing we know is that there aren’t any free passes to the top, you have to earn it.”

The Commodores will compete with host UAB, Ole Miss, Georgia Southern, Kansas, Texas A&M, Lipscomb, Samford, North Florida, Kennesaw State, Liberty, South Alabama, High Point, and Louisiana Tech.  This week’s field features two top-5 teams, six top-50 and 10 top-100 collegiate programs.

Fifty-four holes will be played over two days, with 36 holes being played on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.  Shoal Creek will play from the Blazer tees for the week, a par-72, 7,300-yard format.

“Shoal Creek is a great place with a lot of tradition and I am excited to take our guys there to play,” said Limbaugh.  “It’s a chance to take Patrick home to play in front of friends and family and also for me to go near home and see a lot of people that mean a lot to me.”
