Commodores have 11-shot lead at Mason Rudolph

The Vanderbilt Commodore women’s golf team has an 11-shot lead on the field midway through the third round of play at the Mason Rudolph Championship after a busy Saturday at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship in Franklin, Tenn. The Commodores have a 15-under par total through two-plus rounds on the Vanderbilt Legends Club’s North Course.

Play was suspended after teams played a complete second round and nine to 12 holes of their third round due to inclement weather in the area.  Teams are hoping to finish their third round beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Vanderbilt holds an 11-shot lead on second-place Wake Forest, the only other team under par for the tournament.  Individually, Abbey Carlson leads all individuals with a 13-under par total after firing back-to-back 66’s and posting a one-under score through nine holes of her third round.  Senior Courtney Zeng and freshman Auston Kim are tied for 14th on the individual leader board at even par, freshman Annie Kim is tied for 24th at two-over par, and sophomore Louise You is tied for 27th at three-over par.

Carlson holds a two-shot lead on Wake Forest’s Emilia Migliaccio and a four-shot advantage on the Demon Deacons’ Siyun Liu.

“I’m so proud of how the girls embraced the long day,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen.  “I absolutely love how we finished the second round and created a little separation. The golf course played tougher today but we did a really good job of staying patient and then making birdies to finish the round. It also helps when you have a player doing what Abbey Carlson is doing.”

The Commodores lead the field in par-three scoring, par-four scoring, and par-five scoring, with Carlson leading all individuals in par-five scoring and birdies.

“I believe the horn blew at a good time for us,” said Allen.  “I think we were getting tired and started making a few mental mistakes. I really hope we get to play tomorrow because I want our girls to have the chance to finish what we’ve started.”
