Corbin to receive ABCA Ethics Award

NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin will receive the prestigious ABCA/Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award at the 75th annual ABCA Convention in Dallas, set for Jan. 3-6, 2019, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The award honors individuals who embody the ABCA Code of Ethics. Corbin will be recognized alongside Pacific Northwest baseball coaching legend Pete Doumit. The association believes that the highest calling of a baseball coach is to teach life’s lessons and model the character traits of honesty, integrity, respect and personal responsibility.

Corbin has been heavily involved in the ABCA throughout his 34 years as a member, serving as the 2013 ABCA President and now as an active member on the Board of Directors as well as multiple other committees.

Corbin, who led the Commodores to the 2014 National Championship, has tallied nearly 800 career wins as a head coach and led Vanderbilt to 13 consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. The 2000 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year while at Clemson, Corbin left the Tigers to take the helm at Vanderbilt in 2003.

Corbin’s efforts have paid off in the win column and across the board as D1Baseball.com tabbed Vanderbilt the top program in the nation in 2015 and second in 2017. The Wolfeboro, N.H., native has coached 60 players that have gone on to play Major League Baseball.

Prior to Clemson, Corbin was the head coach of the Presbyterian College Blue Hose, where he helped transition the school from NAIA to NCAA Division II. Corbin’s success has earned him respect among the college and international baseball communities.

In the summer of 2006, he managed the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team to a 28-2-1 record that culminated with a gold medal finish at the FISU (International University Sports Federation) World University Championship in Havana, Cuba.
