VU launches Mr. C's Reading Club

Vanderbilt wants young Commodore fans to start reading!

Vanderbilt Athletics, with support from Ingram Charities, has launched a reading program for students in Pre-K through fourth grade at Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS). Students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes a day and become a member of Mr. C’s Reading Club.

To become a member of Mr. C’s Reading Club, students track their reading by completing nine reading tasks (at least 20 minutes a day). Upon completion of the Road to Reading Excellence, students will receive access to a free ticket for a Vanderbilt Football game.

“With the launch of Mr. C’s Reading Club, we hope to encourage and grow the next generation of Commodore fans into becoming excellent readers,” said Eric Jones, assistant athletics director for ticketing at Vanderbilt. “With the help of our partners at Ingram, our coaches, staff and student-athletes, Vanderbilt Athletics is looking forward to making this a great first chapter on what we hope will be a great journey for each Reading Club member.”

Any student who completes his or her Road to Reading Excellence will have the opportunity to obtain a free kids ticket to either the Vanderbilt vs. Nevada (Sept. 8) or the Vanderbilt vs. TSU (Sept. 29). Tickets must be obtained or purchased no later than the Wednesday before the selected game.

Members of Mr. C’s Reading Club are encouraged to enjoy Vanderbilt’s Kid’s Zone prior to each home kickoff, located on Jess Neely Drive next to Vanderbilt Stadium.

Students who receive a free ticket voucher code will automatically be eligible to purchase up to six discounted tickets to the game they select above (additional tickets are $5 each) and are based on availability. Due to a limited space, Mr. C’s Reading Club members and their families will be accommodated based on the order in which they are received.
