Vanderbilt Associate Vice Chancellor for University Affairs and Deputy AD Candice Lee has been honored as a member of 2018 NEXT UP, presented by adidas.
NEXT UP spotlights senior-level college administrators ready to take the next step as athletic directors, according to CollegeAD.com. The 11 honorees are handpicked by some of the most respected athletic directors in the industry and boast a combined 40 years of athletic experience between them. NEXT UP honorees were recognized during last week’s National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention, the professional association for those in the field of intercollegiate athletics administration.

“Let me congratulate Candice on receiving this award,” said David Williams II, Vanderbilt’s Vice Chancellor for Athletics and University Affairs and Athletics Director. “There is no one in college athletics more deserving of such a recognition. Candice is an example of the true meaning of the gift and goal of college athletics. She was a scholarship student-athlete who used the opportunity to earn not one degree, but three — all from Vanderbilt.
“While studying for her third degree, Candice began work as an academic counselor for Vanderbilt’s men’s basketball program. Since then, she has learned and worked in every aspect of college sports, including committee work with the NCAA and SEC. She is a role model for students as well as student-athletes, and her contributions have made Vanderbilt athletics and college athletics better in so many ways. Dr. Lee, as we call her, is what this is all about at Vanderbilt. Congratulations to a true success story and to Candice.”
Lee is a former team captain for Vanderbilt women’s basketball and a three-time Vanderbilt graduate who now serves as senior women’s administrator for the Commodores. Last summer, the Madison, Ala. native became one of 10 recipients of the minority scholarship award from the John McLendon Minority Scholarship Foundation for the 2017 LEAD1 Association Institute. The McLendon Foundation offers postgraduate scholarships to minority candidates pursuing graduate degrees in athletics administration. As part of the honor, Lee was recognized at the 2017 LEAD1 Association Institute at the University of Colorado-Boulder last July.
