Home runs lead to NCC donations

July 24, 2018

NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt Athletics is proud to partner with the Rio Grande Fence Company throughout the baseball season.

To show its support, Rio Grande Fence Company pledged to make a donation to the National Commodore Club for every home run hit by the Commodores during the season. During the 2018 baseball season, the Commodores hit a total of 67 homers.

Vandy ranked 23rd nationally in the category and collected its most long balls since belting 69 during the 2015 season. The Dores matched an NCAA Tournament record, striking nine home runs in a 19-6 victory against the host Tigers at the Clemson Regional.

“Rio Grande Fence Company and the Smith family have been great supporters of Vanderbilt Baseball and the National Commodore Club for years,” said Mark Carter, Executive Director of the National Commodore Club and Athletics Development. “We are appreciative of their support both philanthropically and as a corporate partner. It’s always fun to see our guys hit home runs at Hawkins Field and their involvement makes it even more so. I want to thank them again for their support of our baseball program and all our Vanderbilt student-athletes.”

About Rio Grande Fence Co.
Since 1958, Rio Grande Fence Co. of Nashville has been family owned and operated and is the mid-south’s largest commercial fence installation company. Owners Derek and Michael Smith are proud to be part of the Vanderbilt family. Over the years, the company made the decision to move away from the residential market to concentrate on providing fencing to general contractors, business owners, and government agencies. This decision has enabled the company to give “white-glove treatment” to a more focused clientele and to work on establishing itself as The Commercial Fence Professionals™.
