Commodore men’s golfers, both past and present, are excelling around the world in professional tours and in some of the country’s most prestigious amateur events. Here’s what’s going on around the Vanderbilt Golf world.
Snedeker finishes T-3 at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier
Brandt Snedeker finished in a tie for third at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier last weekend in White Sulpher Springs, W.Va., which guaranteed Snedeker a spot in the Open Championship in two weeks at Carnoustie Golf Club in Angus, Scotland. The Nashville native fired a final-round 64 on Sunday and finished in the top four at The Greenbrier, which earned him an exemption in the Open.
Current PGA Tour player Luke List will also compete in the festivities July 19-22 at Carnoustie.
Schwab steady on European Tour
2017 Vanderbilt graduate Matthias Schwab is quietly having a stellar season on the European Tour so far in 2018, where the Rohrmoos, Austria native has seven top-20 finishes and 14 cuts made. Schwab is currently 85th on the European Tour money list, with the top 60 advancing to the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai November 15-18.
This week Schwab is in Scotland for the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open July 12-15.
Humphrey, Stewart on PGA MacKenzie Tour in Canada
Commodores Theo Humphrey and Hunter Stewart are each playing this summer on the PGA MacKenzie Tour in Canada. Humphrey finished in a tie for sixth at the Windsor Championship in Windsor, Ontario last weekend after carding a 20-under par, 264 total (62-69-67-66).
Humphrey and Stewart will both tee it up this weekend at the Staal Foundation Open presented by tbaytel in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Ott qualifies for U.S. Amateur, Martin also to play
Rising sophomore Harrison Ott tied for medalist honors at the Cedar Falls, Iowa U.S. Amateur qualifier on July 9 and punched his ticket to the U.S. Amateur August 13-19, which takes place this year at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course on the Monterrey Peninsula in Northern California. Ott carded a two-round total of 141 at the Beaver Hills Country Club and tied with Frank Lindwall of Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the best two-round score.
Rising senior Patrick Martin will also tee it up on the Monterrey Peninsula. Martin is ranked 34th in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), which exempts him into the tournament. The top 50 players in the WAGR qualify for the U.S. Amateur.
Other Commodores will be attempting to qualify for the U.S. Amateur in the upcoming days.

- Rising junior John Augenstein finished in 4th at the Sunnehanna Amateur at the Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pa.
- Rising sophomore Mason Greenberg finished 19th at the Monroe Invitational at the Monroe Golf Club in June. The Monroe is one of the oldest amateur events in the country.
- Rising senior Will Gordon (3rd), Augenstein (6th), and Martin (T-11th) each finished in the top 11 at the 57th Northeast Amateur at the Wannamoisett Country Club in East Providence, R.I.
- Rising sophomore Cooper Sears finished second at the 2018 Daikin Spirit of America Championship at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, Ala. last weekend and incoming freshman Michael Shears finished in a tie for 11th.
- Augenstein, Gordon, Greenberg, Martin, and incoming freshman Reid Davenport will compete at the Players Amateur July 10-15 at Berkeley Hall Club in South Carolina.
- Assistant Coach Gator Todd, Augenstein, Davenport, Greenberg, and Sheers to all play in the Southern Amateur at the Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky. July 18-21.
- Gordon and Martin will participate in the Pacific Coast Amateur July 24-27 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
