STILLWATER, Okla. – The Commodores moved up the team leader board on Sunday and were only one of three teams under par at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma, firing a one-under par, 287 on the par-72, 7,460-yard layout, which places the team in fourth with a three-round total of 866 (287-292-287). Vanderbilt is assured of one more round of stroke play after finishing in the top 15 teams after 54 holes of stroke-play competition.

The Commodores counted a team-leading two-under par, 70 from senior Theo Humphrey, a pair of even-par 72’s from juniors Will Gordon and Patrick Martin, respectively, and a one-over par, 73 from sophomore John Augenstein on Sunday. In all, Vanderbilt converted 19 birdie opportunities, with Gordon leading the way with six. As a team, the Commodores are fourth in birdies for the championship with 52.

Augenstein is the team’s leader after three rounds with a score of 212 (70-69-73), which ties him for seventh place individually. Humphrey is in a tie for 22nd with a 215 (70-5-70), Gordon is tied for 39th with a 219 (74-73-72), Martin is tied for 68th with a 223 (76-75-72), and redshirt freshman Mason Greenberg is in the clubhouse with a three-round total of 227 (73-77-77, T-96).

“I thought all of our guys played well today and I am proud of how they battled,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “Patrick did a great job staying patient early and that gave him a chance to hang in there at the end and finish strong. That was big for him because he didn’t finish the way he wanted to yesterday and he fought through it today and finished strong. Theo really played well all day and gave us a big round. Will did so many good things today and he’s gotten a little better every round which should give him a lot of confidence. John continued his solid play today and managed his game well even though he may not have been quite as sharp as he had been the first two rounds. We had all five guys battling to the end and enjoying the privilege of the fight which is what we asked them to do.”

Vanderbilt, in fourth place, is six shots clear of the eight-team cutline, which will be settled Monday afternoon in the tournament’s final day of stroke play. The Commodores are seeking their fourth consecutive trip to the match-play portion of the event, which begins on Tuesday morning.

Duke leads all teams with a score of 854 (291-287-276) after a tournament-best 12-under par, 276 on Sunday. Host Oklahoma State is second with a seven-under par, 857 and Texas Tech is third with a three-under par, 861 (284-287-290).

Individually, Clemson’s Bryson Nimmer has the lead with a nine-under par, 207 (64-75-68), two shots ahead of Brandon Mancheno of Auburn. The NCAA individual champion will be crowned after play is complete Monday.

“We have to continue to look forward and be excited about what each day can bring,” said Limbaugh. “We have to continue to be tough enough to push past adversity and focus on controlling our own play boxes. This time of year, it’s all about doing this together, playing with pride and passion, and looking forward to the next new opportunity each day presents. I know we will be excited about that opportunity tomorrow.”

Vanderbilt will tee off beginning at 11:50 CT off of the number-one tee with Oklahoma and Auburn on Monday. Golf Channel coverage of the final round of the NCAA Championship begins at 2 p.m. CT.
