Dores finish eighth in Cabo

Final Results

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The Vanderbilt men’s golf team moved up three spots on the team leader board on the final day of play at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate and finished the event with a final total of 865 (296-286-283) on Tuesday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Senior Theo Humphrey finished in a tie for third at the par-71, 6,928-yard Querencia Golf Club with a score of four-under par, 209 (68-68-73) to lead all Commodore players.

Vanderbilt counted Humphrey’s 73, a pair of 69s from juniors Will Gordon and Patrick Martin and a 72 from sophomore John Augenstein.

“I am proud of how we competed today,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “Patrick was really solid this week, hung in there and stayed positive when he could have gotten small and that led to him getting a little better each day. Gordo had his worst round of the year the first day, but showed a ton of maturity and character in how he responded the last two rounds. And Theo had to battle back each round and he was able to do that which was big for our team. As a group, we simply weren’t as good as we need to be and we aren’t okay with that. It’s important for us to grow from this and own our results and be better because of it. When you demand more you get more, so our demands have got to be higher.”

Oklahoma State won the team title by eight shots over California with a score of 838 (276-282-280), while the Bears’ Collin Morikawa won the individual title with a total of 16-under par, 197 (66-67-64).

“We aren’t happy with where we are, but we know everything we want is in front of us and we need to embrace that,” said Limbaugh. “I think how we respond to this challenge will show a lot about the character of this team. The climb is the fun part and I trust the leadership of this team.”

Vanderbilt will return to the course March 16-18 at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. in their next event.
