Commodores fall to No. 24/23 Miami

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Mariella Fasoula, Cierra Walker and LeaLea Carter all scored in double-figures in the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team’s 90-65 loss to #24/23 Miami Thursday night in the Florida Sunshine Classic at Warden Arena.

First Quarter: Miami 29, Vanderbilt 14
-After a triple from Walker and a jumper from LeaLea Carter, Vanderbilt took an early 5-2 lead.
-The Hurricanes responded with a 22-2 run that spanned to the 3:33 mark.
-Vanderbilt netted seven of the last nine points of the quarter to cut the lead, 29-14.
-Miami shot 76 percent from the field while holding Vanderbilt to just 33 percent.
 
Second Quarter: Miami 51, Vanderbilt 30
-Fasoula collected nine points in the second quarter.
-The Hurricanes outscored the Commodores 22-16 in the quarter to maintain their lead going into the half.
-Miami took advantage of 10 second chance points in the first half, compared to VU’s five.
 
Third Quarter: Miami 72, Vanderbilt 50
-After exchanging the opening points, the Hurricanes netted nine unanswered to extend its lead 62-32.
-Vanderbilt went on an 8-0 run that ended with a LeaLea Carter putback to finish off the quarter, 72-50.
-The Commodores shot 56.3 percent from the field in the third frame.
 
Fourth Quarter: Miami 90, Vanderbilt 65
-Miami rattled off nine in a row to open the fourth stanza and move its lead to 81-50.
-The Hurricanes continued to pile onto their lead throughout the quarter to remain in front, sealing the game, 90-65.
 
Inside the Lane
-Miami now goes ahead in the series 2-1.
-Vanderbilt is now 0-6 on the season in games that it falls behind at the half.
-Carter collected a season-high 12 points.
-Clemons-Green collected a career-high six dimes.
-Fasoula (21) and Cierra Walker (11) rounded out the Dores in double-figures.
-Vanderbilt falls to 4-7 on the season while the Hurricanes improve to 10-2.
-Fasoula collected her fourth consecutive 20+ point game.
