Hopkins and Shamburger named to Freshman team

NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt’s Haley Hopkins and Ella Shamburger both landed on the Top-Drawer Soccer Freshman team, it was announced on Tuesday.
 
Hopkins earned a spot on the Top-Drawer Soccer First Team, while Shamburger made it on the Second Team.
 
Hopkins led the Commodores in points (35) and goals (14) in 2018 while ranking first and second in the SEC in those categories, respectively. She ranked second in the SEC in points (17) and goals (7) in conference games.
 
The 2018 SEC Freshman of the Year, Hopkins was also named to the Southeast Region First Team, the All-SEC First Team and the All-SEC Freshman team. Hopkins was also the recipient of two Freshman of the Week honors and one Offensive Player of the Week honor this season.
 
Shamburger was the center of the defense for the Commodores, starting all 21 games this season. She was a part of a strong Vanderbilt defense that only allowed 14 goals all season. Shamburger led the team in minutes played with 1,776 minutes on the year. She also logged three assists with one against Georgia and two against Murray State.
