Bulanova Voted Southland Bowler of Month

FRISCO, Texas – Vanderbilt’s Maria Bulanova is the Southland Conference’s Bowler of the Month for February, the league announced Thursday. The recognition marked Bulanova’s second such honor in three months.

Bulanova led the Commodores to one of its best months in program history as an anchor and recorded her third-career MVP performance at the Prairie View Invitational, where No. 2 Vanderbilt took second. The junior ranks first in individual scoring average among the Southland Bowling League in averaging 21.42 over 387 frames played.

The Moscow, Russia, native finished as the individual champion at the Prairie View Invitational with the highest average (227.67) among the 78 participating bowlers in a field that included 10 ranked teams. Bulanova followed it up with a second-place finish at Sunshine State and helped Vandy to a win at the Ladyjack Classic with a seventh-place performance.

Stephen F. Austin’s Carlene Beyer and Tulane’s Tiera Gulum earned honorable mention recognition. Southland Bowlers of the Month are selected by the league’s sports information directors. Voting for one’s own bowler is not permitted. To receive honorable mention, a player must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
