NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Five Commodores scored in double figures as the Vanderbilt women’s team notched its first victory of the season with a resounding 99-70 win over visiting Austin Peay Monday night in Memorial Gymnasium.

How It Happened
First Quarter: Vanderbilt 24, Austin Peay 21
Mariella Fasoula scored the first four baskets for the Commodores, putting the squad up 8-3 early on. Austin Peay used three pointers to keep it tight throughout, before a triple from Brinae Alexander created distance, 24-19. A layup with four seconds remaining in the stanza set the quarter score, 24-21.

Second Quarter: Vanderbilt 41, Austin Peay 35
The second was also a tale of back-and-forth, before fouls plagued the Governors down the back stretch. Over the last three minutes the Commodores buried 5-of-6 shots from the charity stripe to stay out in front, 41-35.

Third Quarter: Vanderbilt 68, Austin Peay 48
Fasoula found the basket in the early going of the third quarter to spark a 14-1 run to widen the seven-point halftime margin. Vanderbilt went on to outscore Austin Peay, 26-13, in the quarter. The Commodores also shot 50 percent from the field in the third and a perfect 100 percent (7-7) from the free throw line.

Fourth Quarter: Vanderbilt 99, Austin Peay 70
Jordyn Cambridge set the tone for the quarter after burying an early triple. A few points later, the Commodores scored nine unanswered to stretch its lead, 83-56. Vandy stayed hot, shooting 83.3 percent from the field and were perfect from beyond the arc.

Inside the Lane
Vanderbilt shot 60 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc while holding APSU to just 38.8 percent from the field.
-The Commodores out-rebounded the Governors 42-to-30.
-VU shared the ball well, racking up 23 assists on the night.
-Vanderbilt won the battle in the paint, notching 48 points while holding APSU to just 26.

Double Digit Dores
Five Commodores finished the contest in double digits: Autumn Newby (10), Chelsie Hall (12), Brinae Alexander (13), Cierra Walker (22) and Mariella Fasoula (25).

A New High
Cierra Walker’s 22 points, four of which were from deep, sets a new career high (previously 21).
