Getting to know Liz Ross

We recently conducted light-hearted, get-to-know interviews with members of Vanderbilt bowling’s freshman class.  Today we meet Liz Ross of Rotterdam, N.Y.

Age I began to bowl: 5 years old

Who got me started with bowling: My Dad got me started with the sport; he bowled in high school and has coached for years

Favorite part about being at Vanderbilt: I love the collaborative atmosphere and how there’s trees everywhere

Favorite musical performer: Twenty One Pilots

Favorite movie: The Dark Knight

Nobody can believe I watch this TV show: The Vampire Diaries

Favorite midnight snack: Always chocolate

Favorite thing about myself: I smile easily

The best tasting food I can make: Chocolate chip cookies

Favorite athlete to watch in another sport: Jordan Spieth (golfer)

Talent I’d most like to have: I wish I could do a backflip

Favorite thing to do away from bowling: I love going out with friends and watching movies

My best non-athletic talent:  I can play the drums

Favorite aspect of Nashville: definitely the food and that there’s always something to do

Superstitions: I keep a spoon in my bowling bag for good luck

The person I’d love to trade places with for a day: Will Smith

What I would do if I won the lottery: Buy a Tesla

Ultimate vacation destination: Anywhere with a beach

Career goal outside of bowling: It would be really cool to work for NASA one day.

The most famous person(s) I’ve met: Jason Belmonte (Pro Bowler)

Three things on my bucket list are:  Go skydiving, visit Europe, and cliff jumping

One thing my hometown is famous for: General Electric and Jumpin Jacks Drive-In

What I like best about my coaches: They push us to be the best versions of ourselves both on and off the lanes

Biggest influence in my life: My parents because they are great role models and they made me who I am today

Most important thing I’ve learned since coming to Vanderbilt: “There are two pains in life, the pain of discipline and the pain of regret. One is temporary and the other can last forever.”

My advice to young people is: Dream big and work hard

Why did you choose Vanderbilt: I chose Vanderbilt because it’s a prestigious school with a great bowling program
