ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia found paydirt on three consecutive possessions, breaking open a once eight-point game as the No. 2 Bulldogs defeated Vanderbilt, 41-13 on Saturday night in front of 92,746 spectators at Sanford Stadium.
The Commodores (3-3, 0-2 SEC) jumped ahead 3-0 on a 25-yard field goal from Ryley Guay but surrendered the lead on Georgia’s (6-0, 4-0 SEC) next offensive snap when Jake Fromm connected with Terry Godwin on a 75-yard touchdown pass.
Trailing 7-3 early in the second quarter, Vanderbilt elected to go for it on 4th-and-1 at the Georgia 14-yard line but Khari Blasingame was tackled for no gain. The Bulldogs went on to outscore the Commodores, 34-10 the remainder of the contest.
Quarterback Kyle Shurmur surpassed 7,000 career passing yards, completing 14-of-28 passes for 169 yards. Ke’Shawn Vaughn led the Commodores with 79 rushing yards on nine carries. CJ Bolar was the leading wideout, catching four passes for 46 yards.
Backup Mo Hasan led the Commodores on a 7-play, 53-yard drive which was capped by a 2-yard score from Josh Crawford with two seconds remaining.
Fromm continued his stellar season, connecting with seven receivers while throwing for 276 yards on 17-of-23 passing, including three touchdowns. Georgia’s offense piled up 560 yards of total offense including 341 through the air.
