Contreras headed to her fifth straight national semifinals

Pacific Palisades, Calif. – Day two of the Riviera All-Americans main draw resulted in many victories for Vanderbilt senior Fernanda Contreras, who now advances to her fifth straight national semifinals round.

Contreras opened up the singles round of 16 against Duke’s Meible Chi with in a swift straight-set win for Contreras, 6-3, 6-3.

In the quarterfinals, Contreras took on Anastasia Rychagova from Kansas. Contreras opened up the match strong and fierce in a 6-1 win. Headed into the second set, Contreras held Rychagova to only one point in another 6-1 victory.

“Matches went well today,” Contreras said. “The scores don’t reflect how tight and how arduous the matches were. I feel very happy, and honestly I have no expectations. This is my fifth straight national semifinals, so I have no pressure. I just have to work and respect, trust the process, breathe and believe.”

Contreras competes on Saturday for a shot at reaching the final round of singles play, where she will look to repeat as the Riviera All-American champion.
