Fasoula Named To Lisa Leslie Award Watch List

NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt redshirt junior Mariella Fasoula has been selected to the 2019 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association announced today.

The Lisa Leslie Award recognizes the top center in women’s college basketball.

The winner of the award, named after three-time All-American and 1994 National Player of the Year Leslie, will be announced on an ESPN platform during the 2019 Women’s Final Four in Tampa, Fla.

Student-athletes can be added or removed from the list throughout the course of the season.

“Before Lisa Leslie became one of the most recognizable faces of the WNBA, she was a collegiate center taking the women’s game to new heights,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “She is one of the most accomplished and respected centers to ever play the game.”

Fasoula sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules. Prior to arriving at Vanderbilt, the Athens, Greece native played two seasons for Boston College. She started in all but five games over the two-year span and led the Eagles in scoring (16.0 points per game) and rebounds (7.5 rebounds per game) during her sophomore campaign.

Vanderbilt women’s basketball tips off against the University of Indianapolis for a 2 p.m. exhibition on Sunday. The Commodores will open the 20-18-19 regular-season on November 6 against North Alabama. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
