Doubles Duo advances to round two of Riviera All-Americans

Pacific Palisades, Calif. – Opening up the first day of qualifying rounds at the Riviera All-American Championships, Vanderbilt seniors Fernanda Contreras and Summer Dvorak left it all on the court against North Texas’s Kononova/Kutubidze, defeating the duo, 8-7 (2).
 
The Commodore tandem advances to the Round of 16 on Wednesday, another step closer to advancing to the main doubles draw.
 
Elsewhere, Vanderbilt’s Amanda Meyer and Christina Rosca competed against Rychagova/Smagina from Kansas in a strong fought battle but were ultimately defeated, 8-6.
 
In round one of singles play, Rosca conquered William & Mary’s Rosie Cheng in a straight-set win, 6-3, 6-0, advancing Rosca to the Round of 32. Meyer took on Meible Chi from Duke but fell 1-6, 2-6.
 
In the Round of 32, No. 30 Rosca competed against UGA’s No. 77 Marta Gonzalez in a match between two ranked SEC competitors. In a close first set Gonzalez defeated Rosca, 7-6. In the second set, Rosca fought back but was ultimately defeated, 6-4.
 
Qualifying rounds conclude Wednesday with the main draw of matches beginning Thursday morning. Contreras takes the court for singles play on Thursday.
