Commodores to face Auburn for next SEC test

NASHVILLE – Vanderbilt hits the road to face Auburn in its next upcoming conference matchup on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
 
The No. 12 Commodores (13-1-1, 6-0-1) are coming off their first tie of the season after a scoreless draw in double overtime against No. 9 South Carolina. The Dores’ 13-game winning streak came to an end, but they have remained unbeaten in their last 14 contests. 
 
Junior goalkeeper Lauren Demarchi recently received Defensive Player of the Week honors after she became the first goalkeeper to hold South Carolina scoreless this season. Demarchi is 10-0-1 this season and ranks first in the SEC in goals against average (.29) and save percentage (.914). 
 
The Dores stayed at No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll to remain ranked for the fourth consecutive week. Their ranking is the second-highest in program history, just behind a No. 8 ranking achieved in 1998. 
 
Against South Carolina, Vanderbilt’s offense was held scoreless for only the second time this season. The Dores still feature a couple of the conference’s best offensive threats in Kaylann Boyd and Haley Hopkins. Hopkins is third in points (26) and goals (11), and she leads the same categories in conference play with 13 and six, respectively. Boyd finds herself tied for sixth in the SEC in goals (7).
 
Leila Azari, meanwhile, is tied for ninth in the SEC with five assists.
 
The Dores lead the SEC with 19 points, just ahead of Texas A&M and South Carolina who boast 16 points apiece. The Dores currently have their best start to start to conference okay
